Jerez de la Frontera is inside the path of totality on 2 August 2027, with 1 minute 37 seconds. That is a real total eclipse, but the northern limit runs just above the city, which is why the figure is so much shorter than Cádiz half an hour away. Sanlúcar de Barrameda, only twenty kilometres north west, misses out entirely at 99.97%.
Jerez matters out of proportion to its totality, because it has the airport that serves the whole western end of the path, and because it is a very pleasant place to be based for a few days.

The old Moorish fortress and the open square beside it sit on the high ground of the old town, with the cathedral next door. Good open sky and a fine setting.
The big park on the north side of town, home of the Feria del Caballo. Plenty of space and plenty of shade for the two hours of partial phases, though being on the north side you are nearer the limit.
If you have a car, twenty five minutes south takes you to El Puerto de Santa María with 2 minutes 28 seconds, or forty minutes to Cádiz with 2 minutes 54 seconds. An hour gets you to Conil or Vejer and over four minutes. From Jerez, every kilometre south is worth having.
Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Trebujena and everything north of Jerez lose totality altogether. Arcos de la Frontera, to the east, scrapes just 41 seconds. If you are staying anywhere in this area, check the exact spot on the map, because the difference between one side of a road and the other can be the whole eclipse.

Plane: Jerez airport is the only airport actually inside the path in western Andalusia, with flights from Madrid, Barcelona, London and several German cities. It is small, so seats for eclipse weekend will disappear early.
Train: Jerez is on the Cádiz line, with direct trains to Seville and Madrid, and local services to El Puerto, San Fernando and Cádiz. The airport has its own station.
Accommodation: Jerez has a good stock of hotels and is normally cheaper than the coast in August. It is a sensible base: sleep here, drive or take the train south on the morning.
